One- and two-week programs
Located on Mt. Desert Island, Maine, the Acadia Institute of Oceanography (AIO) is a one-of-a-kind educational experience for students age 10-18. Since 1975, AIO has introduced young people to the world of marine science through a unique curriculum that combines the basic elements of biological, physical, and chemical oceanography with field, classroom, offshore, and laboratory work. The edge of the sea is AIO's classroom and its academic activities follow the tides. All participants are expected to arrive with a curious mind and a commitment to learn. Advanced session will is optionally offered as a 3 credit oceanography course through the Univ. of Maine Machias.
